Nov 13, Lily rated it really liked it. This was a great book, I wish I had paid more attention to it. Set in s France, a dozen or so young people, runaways and revolutionaries, live as squatters in this big apartment in Paris.

It was a little hard to get everyone's story straight, but it was such a well told story, a lot happening between the lines.

There wasn't really a plot, just an ambling collection of vignettes, with different ideological and sociological descriptions.

Sep 30, Olivia rated it really liked it Shelves: positive-lgbtqa-representation , favorites. The cadence of the narrative took two chapters for me to get into the rhythm of, and then it flew by in a blink!

Sherazade is at once sparkling and gritty and just like the character, the book is layered and nuanced in a way that is incredibly relevant today.

Paris' many cultures blend and clash as seen through the eyes and experiences and actions of the characters. The history of France and its colonies comes to life in the current day-to-day activities of Sherazade and her buddies.

I know there are more books about Sherazade, but I don't think they've been translated into English yet I hope they are translated.

I bought this novel by chance, I went off college tried, exhausted and bored of my projects, studies and everything mostly, decided to have a walk.

I put my headphones and walked without caring about anything or anyone around me, I was walking on my own world literary.

There was an old man who sells old used books with a very lovely smell! The moment I saw it, my heart started beating so hard, I could focus on the playing list of my songs, I glanced at that book my eyes were full of excitement.

It was enchanting. I had been attracted by a book! I passed through a lot of struggles while reading this novel, it means something to me because it was like a close friend to me.

It was that kind of activity I used to do when I want to escape form everything and everyone. In Paris, too he was a wanderer, but without the freedom of narrow, deserted roads, these gravel roads which still exist and which he loved to drive with a powerful car raising a cloud of yellow dust behind it.

He would stop, get out, stuff off again, accelerate, barking suddenly with a viciousness that these country roads allowed. Thanks to the author tho.

May 17, Neetu rated it it was ok Shelves: , own-it-read-it , poc-authors. I have very mixed feelings about this book. A great bulk of the "plot" was unclear.

But it was an easy read and showed the lives of a large ensemble cast, namely Shehrazade, coming to terms with her Algerian identity- after fleeing from there to France.

I thought Pierrot and Julian were incredibly possessive and all around creepers. I felt no empathy for them. The ending was worth the read.

Bon, c'est fini. May 14, Sherry Fyman rated it it was ok. Set in Paris in the s? The title character references Arabian Nights and I guess the risk is that when you launch your book for an international classic you set a high bar for yourself.

May 12, Laila Taji rated it it was amazing Shelves: arab-books. I enjoyed this book. The main character is engaging and enigmatic.

Short easy to read chapters. So interesting to read about children of immigrants who feel ostracized in their own country and how they struggle with rebellion and belonging.

A Word Origin Quiz Who'd a thunk? Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to comment on our Hotel. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We hope to welcome you again soon! Kind regards, Yanis Benchaira and Team. Horta, Portugal contributions 67 helpful votes. Right in the middle of the action.

Lovely riad and a 5 min. Dounia arranged for our taxi from the airport for 20 euros that included a man who took our luggage from the taxi onto a cart and guided us thought the souk until we reached the hotel.

This was perfect as we would have had a difficult time in finding this riad on our own. The Hotel Sherazade was very clean, staff very friendly and rooms were an average size.

The wifi wasn't very good in the rooms, but on the terrace there was no problem. Breakfast was ok and included coffee, mint tea, a variety of breads and jams, as well as yogurt and fresh oranges.

Driss helped us organize private tours to the Ourika Valley and camel and quad bike rides at a very good price.

The hotel is not luxurious, but the price is fair for what you get. Would definitely stay here again. Date of stay: February Location.

Room Tip: As for a quiet room,as the ones near the breakfast room can be noisy. See more room tips. Responded 17 Feb Dear guest, thank you for the positive feedback.

We are delighted to hear that you ejoyed your stay at Hotel Sherazade. We are working on making the wifi connection work in all rooms.

We would be happy to welcome you on your next trip to Marrakech in the future! Kind regards, Yanis Benchaira Manager and Team. Supadappa wrote a review Jan Oslo, Norway contributions helpful votes.

Repeat visit. I was here at Sherazade six years ago and enjoyed my stay. Hence the decision to return.

The hotel arranged pick up from the airport for 15 euros. I'd suggest that rather than dealing with the hustlers when you're fresh in Morocco last time I got dropped off far from the hotel by a dishonest taxi driver.

Everything was as it had been. Friendly staff, atmospheric setting, good breakfast. I was here in January last time too, but I don't remember it being this cold.

No old building in Morocco is built for winter temperatures. We were quite cold in the room, despite the heat from the aircon. I had communicated with them before arrival regarding bus and train tickets.

I did not always get a response, and when I did, not all my questions were answered. The websites of CTM and especially Supratours are pretty useless.

I was told that they could not buy bus tickets to Essaouira for me for a fee until one day before travel.

And that I had to buy my return ticket once in Essaouira. Neither of these things turned out to be true. I'm not sure if there was deliberate dishonestly or if they were really so clueless about onward travel.

I would probably stay here again if I was to return to Marrakech. Date of stay: January Value. Room Tip: Generally quiet apart from the call to prayer from the mosque next door.

Responded 31 Jan Dear Mr. Daniel Jones, thank you for your rating. We are glad to hear that you visited Hotel Sherazade again after 6 years.

We are happy that you were satisfied with the staff and breakfast. Concerning the room, you were upgraded from a "standard room" into one of our Suites for the price of a standard room.

I also spoke to the colleague that answered your emails. Please note that your questions were answered mostly on the same day or latest on the next day except for the email sent on the 31st which i do apologize for.

We know that the websites of the bus companies are useless, and for that reason we offer that extra service of getting the tickets for our guests.

My colleague called the bus company CTM asking how long in advance the tickets can be purchased. They told us that the ticket can ONLY be purchased one day in advance and only "one-way" as it is not possible to buy the return ticket from Essaouira according to their information.

We understand that it is not convenient to buy tickets only one day before and without return but we cannot take fault for that.

In Morocco things may change daily without anyone being informed. Maybe someone else told you it is possible to buy tickets more than one day in advance but we are referring to the information CTM gave us when calling their office.

We would be pleased to welcome you again soon at Hotel Sherazade in the near future. Sarah Victoria B wrote a review Jan Lovely stay.

I was in a lovely room with a friend for a very very good price. Clean and quiet. The terrace is beautiful and peaceful.

The maids are very kind and helpful. And the atmisphere is relaxed and very restorstive after a very busy day at the souk.
